Texas Traffic Tickets

Pay Your Traffic Ticket Online

Paying your TX Traffic Ticket

When you pay a non-criminal traffic ticket, note that this is an admission of guilt, it can also mean that you are entering a no contest plea.

Simply put, this means that:

  • You may plea bargain for a lesser penalty by going before a judge or clerk. This must be done in person, in traffic court, so that you can plead your case.
  • Points will be assessed on your driver’s license. The number of points assessed will depend upon the moving violation you have committed, and its severity. You can check this easily by checking Texas’s vehicle code.
  • Note that the more points added to your driving record, the more likely it is that your auto insurance rates will increase. These points can also affect your employment options, as some jobs do require a clean driving record.
  • When your license has increased points, it may be suspended or revoked.
  • Note that the court may allow you to take one of several Texas-approved drivers’ safety courses. When you take one of these classes, it can dismiss your traffic ticket completely and reduce the points assessed on your driving record. These courses can also help with your auto insurance company, as they may offer you a discounted rate.

Note that if you fail to pay your traffic ticket, a warrant may be issued for your arrest. Or, you may find that your license has been suspended or even revoked.

It is very simple to pay your ticket. You can do so online, by mail or even over the phone.
If either of the following situations apply to you, you will most likely have to handle the traffic violation in court:

  • You are a minor.
  • You were cited for a criminal violation. Criminal violations include DUIs (driving under the influence) and reckless driving.

Determine Where the Citation was Received

Your Texas citation should note how to pay your fine. The steps will be displayed. However, if you are still not sure how to resolve the citation, these tips should help:

The state of Texas handles all traffic citations, including speeding tickets, on a county by county basis. This means that you must know the name of the county where your infraction occurred. The actual, physical citation will include this information.

Note that in the state of Texas, all of these law enforcement officers are able to cite drivers for any violation of the state traffic laws:

  • Sheriff
  • Local officers
  • Texas Highway Patrolman

To Use the Texas Highway Patrol’s Online Ticket Search

For drivers who were pulled over by the TX Highway Patrol, it is possible to search online for your ticket, and then pay. You will simply search using your driver’s license number, or, in lieu of that, your state issued ID number.
